Programme purpose:

The aim of the Programme is to plan, regulate, facilitate the provision of integrated sustainable transport services and infrastructure operations through co-ordination and co-operation with national planning authorities, CBO’s, NGO’s and the private sector in order to enhance the mobility of all communities particularly those currently without or with limited access.

 

The functions of the Chief Directorate are to:

  • Manage transport subsidies;
  • Manage transport planning and infrastructure operations;
  • Manage the administration of operating licences and the National Land Transport Information System (NLTIS);
  • Manage operator and route registrations;
  • Manage public transport conflicts; and
  • Manage the Provincial Regulatory Entity (PRE)
