Last weekend has gone by without any major Motor Vehicle Accidents fatalities as compared to previous weekends where we lost more than 40 lives in one week. This is due to a successful and effective Operation Ndadzi,
A total of 3011 Vehicles stopped throughout the Province during the Operation Ndadzi where about 10 drivers were arrested for Drunken Driving, two for exceeding speed limit, one for pending warrants of arrests and seven others on public drinking and for driving without proper legal documents. An arrest was also made when an excited speedster’s was caught driving at 246 km/h on the N1.
The MEC for Transport & Community Safety, Ms Makoma Makhurupetje made it very clear during the launch of Operation Ndadzi that “we are going to hit and hit harder to rid the province of the scourge,” and responding to the performance of last weekend that saw the reduction of critical offences rates that leads to crashes, MEC Makhurupetje said “one life lost is too much and I encourage our law enforcement unit to strive for an incident and accident free festive season.”
The Operation which consists of more than 1200 Traffic officers, the National Traffic Police and South African Police Service will continue every week until January and we call on our road users to obey the rules of the road and exercise patience on the road.
