The Department of Transport and Community Safety has on Wednesday 20th May 2020, started implementing the final leg of back to office strategy, by disinfecting its facilities in order to push back the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The Head office, Schoeman Street Office, Waterberg District Office, and Polokwane Traffic Station are among the facilities that have been scheduled for disinfection programme this week. As the Department re-opens access to permits and licensing services to the public, safety of its employees and clients is of paramount importance.

In this regard, the Department will ensure that its facilities are Covid-19 safe and will apply measures to promote and establish conditions favorable to public health. The Department has partnered with department of health to train its health and safety representatives to conduct Covid-19 screening for every individual entering its facilities. In order to observe physical distancing guidelines, floors have been marked while hands would be sanitised at all entrances and at every floor. The Department registers individuals entering its facilities in keeping with the Covid-19 track and trace database.

The Departmental Head of Communications Mr. Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala said the programme, which started this week, includes disinfection at all district offices and institutions and driving licence testing centres (DTCS ), registering authorities, vehicle testing stations and driving schools will resume services from 01 June 2020, subject to hygiene, disinfection control, social distancing and sanitising measures.

The Department is strictly adhering to the prescribed disaster management regulations and guidelines. The same will be expected from all people entering our facilities. Some of the restrictions include social distancing, wearing of cloth facemasks in a correct way, hand sanitising and screening at entrances.
